New Album: Departure Music
Little Avalanche – Departure Music
Little Avalanche is the Hamilton, Ontario (formerly Victoria, British Columbia) –based alternative rock project of songwriter, producer, and performer Mark Weiler. Known for emotionally direct lyrics, restrained arrangements, and a cinematic sense of space, Little Avalanche occupies the intersection of indie rock, slow-burn alternative, and confessional songwriting. Since its debut, the project has quietly built a reputation for songs that feel intimate and expansive at the same time—music for long drives, late nights, and the moments when life is shifting underneath you.
Departure Music marks a turning point.
The nine-song album finds Little Avalanche embracing a more powerful, punk-pop–influenced sound, pairing driving guitars, propulsive rhythms, and urgent melodies with the project’s signature lyrical honesty. It’s an album about departure, change, endings, and new beginnings, but this time the emotions don’t linger quietly—they push forward, restless and unresolved.
The singles “American Bombs,” “Going Back Home Again,” and “Little Conversations” capture this shift. “American Bombs” confronts modern anxiety and fracture with blunt clarity, while “Going Back Home Again” turns inward, wrestling with memory, distance, and the pull of the past. “Little Conversations” captures the quiet moments where relationships either mend or finally fall apart—small words carrying enormous weight.
Throughout Departure Music, hooks are bigger, tempos are faster, and the songs feel built for movement—whether that’s driving with the windows down or standing in a crowded room with the volume turned up. Yet beneath the urgency, the heart of Little Avalanche remains intact: songs that wrestle honestly with identity, loss, and the uneasy hope that comes with starting over.
Departure Music is the sound of leaving something behind—not quietly, but with conviction. It’s about choosing motion over stasis, noise over silence, and stepping into the next version of yourself with both fists clenched and eyes wide open.

Victoria, BC-based artist Little Avalanche returns with a powerful new two-track single, led by the high-energy, punk-driven title track "American Bombs," and complemented by the introspective and emotional "Requiem," an ode to a lost friend.
While typically steering clear of overt political commentary in his music, Little Avalanche steps into more reflective territory with "American Bombs," offering a thoughtful examination of the current social and political climate. “I’ve always tried to separate politics from art,” he says, “but with so much division and ‘us versus them’ thinking in the world right now, I felt compelled to speak up.”
Rather than taking sides or casting blame, "American Bombs" encourages critical thought, self-reflection, and personal accountability. “It’s not about saying ‘I’m right and you’re wrong,’” explains Little Avalanche. “It’s about looking at the world as it is—fact-checking, analyzing, and ensuring that the outcomes of our choices align with our values and beliefs.”
The release showcases Little Avalanche's ability to blend raw energy with emotional depth, offering listeners both a call to awareness and a moment of remembrance.

'Let There Be Light Again' is the latest EP from Little Avalanche, a band known for its evocative songwriting and deeply personal storytelling. This release is a unique blend of past and present, featuring one brand-new song—the uplifting title track—alongside four reimagined songs originally written between 1989 and 1996.
The EP’s title track, 'Let There Be Light Again', stands out as Little Avalanche’s most optimistic and energetic song to date, marking a striking contrast to the sombre tones of 'If I Can't Stop Your Heart From Breaking'. It captures a sense of renewal and hope, showcasing the band’s ability to evolve while staying true to their signature sound.
The remaining four songs are long-lost gems that have finally been given the proper studio treatment. Though originally penned decades ago, they’ve undergone extensive lyrical and musical revisions, breathing new life into each track. These reinterpretations bridge the gap between past influences and the band's current artistic vision, creating a dynamic listening experience that feels both nostalgic and fresh.
With 'Let There Be Light Again', Little Avalanche invites listeners on a journey through time, reflecting on the past while embracing the future with newfound energy. Whether you're a longtime fan or discovering them for the first time, this EP is a testament to the enduring power of their music.

‘If I Can’t Stop Your Heart from Breaking’ is the latest album from Victoria, BC’s Little Avalanche. It is a raw and unrelenting sonic attack from start to finish. From the opening synth sounds of [chaos theory] the to final piano chord of the title track, it takes the listener on a journey through the painful and chaotic relationship of Dex and Alice, a young homeless couple struggling with addiction.
Written from a first-hand perspective and lived experience, ‘If I Can’t Stop Your Heart from Breaking’ explores the concepts of addiction, homelessness, and mental health issues through the lens of a love story. The narrative focuses on the turbulent relationship of Dex and Alice. As is often the case in our world, people suffering from such issues are marginalized. However, they are no different than anyone else. They love, they fear, they hope, they dream, and they struggle to survive. This story is about compassion and the desire to create a more accepting society.
A portion of all sales will be donated to the Cedar Branches and Warmland Shelters in Duncan BC. Both shelters provide invaluable services and resources to those who suffer from addiction, mental health, and housing issues.
